Primal Soup for the Soul

Today on the show I have first time guest, Casey, and returning guest, Annie. Casey is a 35 year old father raising an 8 year old daughter on his own through the week. We talk about some of the things he is facing with her needing her first bra and all of the things young girls experience. Casey talks about his separation from his wife and how that has affected him towards the end of this part. We also talk about how we first learned about sex. Casey tells a great story about his first time masturbating at 11 with a friend in a bunk bed and how that may have led him into his bisexual lifestyle. He also talks about how difficult it is to meet people and where to meet people.

Casey spent a couple years of his life being a puppeteer and traveling the US and even lived out of his car when he was a door-to-door salesman. We talk a lot about art in this episode, what it means to us, the standards we hold for our art, how drugs can affect art and the importance of having some kind of outlet in your life to release the things we hold onto. Both Casey & Annie were very open through this conversation and I think you will find a lot of it very relate able. There were some audio issues through this, but I think I fixed most of them so it’s not enough to effect the episode. You can see more of Casey on YouTube in his “Primal Soup” pieces. Thanks for listening! See you next week with Part 2.

Faye Donaya Haymond (Part II)

download

Here is the much anticipated second part with Faye Donaya Haymond. In this part, Faye and I discuss her extremely vivid dreams, self harm, people who have inspired Faye in her life, including the band Steam Powered Giraffe who is featured in the intro music in this episode and part 1. Faye also has a TV Tropes page and volunteers for 7 Cups of Tea. I always love where the conversation goes in the second half. You really start to get a feel for who the person is, and Faye does not disappoint. I love the metaphors she uses for every day life. If you’re looking for an inspiring conversation, this is it. This experience has taught me so much about myself, interviewing an absolute, complete stranger. This was such a refreshing change of pace for me and I’m so glad I got to meet Faye! Thanks for listening!

Faye contacted me through an ad I posted on Craigslist for new guests for the show. We met up last weekend by “Dippy” the Dinosaur in Oakland and discussed the novels she has written along with her bipolar disorder. Faye’s pen name is her middle name, “Donaya”. This was one of my favorite interviews because she was so open and interesting to talk to. You can tell she has experienced some great things already, at the young age of 23, and speaking with her felt like I was gaining insight and wisdom to some of my own relate able tendencies.

In part 1 we uncover some of her first experiences in realizing her bipolar disorder, trying to explain it to her parents, and quickly being treated and put on medication. Faye also goes into some of her manic episodes and how all of this has affected her personal relationships through life. We also get into her “heterosexual phase” (as she calls it) and she shares the inspiring story of coming out to her parents. I gained a whole new perspective on people with mental health issues when she spoke about her 3 week stay in a psychiatric ward and having to be on a precise amount of lithium to be stable. This was such a fascinating conversation, I know you’re going to absolutely fall in love with Faye. Look for part 2 going up next week.

Little Darlings (Part II)

yo

Thanks for joining us in the 2nd half of our conversation! In part 2, Kelli, Beth, Annie, Kelsea & I are joined by Ryan McCormick from A Fireside Chat and Ian Sharpley from McSoss. We get some of their input on a few of the topics we discussed in part 1 as well as clothing sizes and why they matter so much to women, we get into some of the guys insecurities, we play the “number” game and explain why some girls are scared of their number getting too high, we discuss the crazy dynamics of female relationships, we cover the age old question, “can men & women just be friends?” We discuss the CA shooting #yesallwomen, what women do to protect ourselves in every day situations, rape culture — why men are more prone to rape, are women capable of rape, would a guy report it if he were raped by a girl? We also discuss a recent female strip club adventure and the strange dynamics of how men react to women being in the strip club. This is an episode you won’t want to miss! Thanks for listening!
